Membership Definitions

An individual who is currently employed at UNCG in the role of Faculty or Staff with a valid University ID.  Note: Employees taking classes using the UNCG employee tuition waiver will have the Student Activity Fee waived and therefore must pay the membership fee.

An individual who is currently employed at UNCG in the role of Staff at the Bookstore, Dining Hall, or Spartan Village with a valid University ID. Verification from a current supervisor/department with stated length of employment is required at signup.

An individual who is visiting UNCG for a limited time with a valid University ID (example: guest lecturer for a department). Verification from a current supervisor/department with stated length of employment is required at signup. 

An individual who retired from UNCG. 

An individual who graduated from UNCG with a degree and is joining for the semester directly following graduation. 

An individual who graduated from UNCG with a degree.

An individual who lives in the eligible perimeter of the Glenwood Neighborhood (the area bounded by Freeman Mill Road, West Gate City Boulevard, and Coliseum Boulevard) and is able to provide proof of residence upon joining. Proof of residence includes (not limited to): 

  • current utility bill
  • personal checks
  • current lease agreement
  • current insurance bill or card
  • current bank or credit card statement
  • current pay stub(s)
  • government-issued check
  • IRS documentation

An individual who is 18 years of age or older being sponsored for a membership by an individual who has an active membership at the Kaplan Center. 

Membership Guidelines

  • All individuals must have a current membership or member sponsorship to access the Department of Recreation and Wellness facilities. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age (see family recreation guidelines for minor access).
  • Members must present a valid, physical UNCG SpartanCard/University ID or Kaplan Center ID card to enter all facilities. The Department of Recreation and Wellness reserves the right to ask for identification at any time.
  • If a member forgets their UNCG SpartanCard/University ID or Kaplan Center ID Card, they are allowed one free entry per semester as long as they have another physical, valid government-issued photo ID with them.  If they forget their UNCG SpartanCard/University IDor Kaplan Center ID Card (a second time or more), they must present another physical, valid government-issued photo ID and pay $10 to be allowed entry into the facility. 
  • Individuals using another individual’s ID will be denied access and the card will be confiscated. The individual listed on the ID card will have their membership suspended and they must schedule a meeting with the Coordinator, Member Services.
  • A liability waiver must be signed upon joining and renewing.
  • Additional members must have their sponsor present upon joining and renewing.
  • The sponsor assumes full responsibility for all actions and behaviors of their additional member(s). 
  • Failure to comply with policies and procedures could result in termination of membership privileges.
  • Membership fees are subject to change at the beginning of each academic year (August). 
  • All memberships, with the exception of UNCG Affiliate Student Membership and Faculty/Staff do not allow participation in Intramural or Club Sports programs. 
  • Additional members are not eligible to sponsor someone for a membership

Payment Options

Monthly (Month-to-Month) 
UNCG Faculty/Staff that currently receive a paycheck from UNCG are eligible for payroll deduction memberships. Payroll deduction memberships will continue to be payroll deducted on a monthly basis indefinitely until cancelled. Payroll deduction cannot be used as a payment option for locker or towel service. 

Semester Memberships 
Semester memberships must be paid in full at the time of purchase. 

Annual Memberships
Annual memberships must be paid in full at the time of purchase.

Semester and Annual memberships
Fees are non-refundable unless membership is canceled within three business days of initial purchase. Membership fees are non-transferable to other membership periods and to other persons. 

Payroll Deduction memberships
The cancellation form must be submitted by the 10th of each month to avoid the next month’s deduction. If we receive this form after the 10th of the month, it is not a guarantee your deduction will be cancelled and we will not issue refunds. 

Exceptions may include moving beyond a 50-mile radius from UNCG, employment termination, or a physician-verified illnes
