The NOLS Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course will help you prepare for the unexpected. This fast paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.

Taught by seasoned instructors in a two day format, WFA courses are held on a weekend. Learning takes place both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions. Come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot environments.

The 16 to 20-hour Wilderness First Aid course includes many advanced topics that other programs leave out such as reduction of dislocations and epinephrine administration.

Wilderness First Aid eligibility requirements:

WFA is open to any avid hikers, teachers leading school trips, backcountry guides, canoe trip leaders, private expedition groups, college/university outdoor education programs, hiking club trip leaders, wilderness therapeutic programs, and adventure race safety personnel.

$250.00

Cost does not include lodging or meals. There are numerous hotels within 20 minutes of Piney Lake, camping is available within 20 minutes at Hagan Stone Park (part of the Greensboro City Parks System). Approximately one hour will be provided for a lunch break, Piney Lake has a refrigerator and microwave and there are numerous restaurants within 10-15 minutes from the property.

Please download the UNCG WFA Registration Packet, complete all forms in full, and submit to UNCG Outdoor Adventures along with payment.

WFA is filled on a first come, first served basis. Outdoor Adventures cannot hold spots without payment.

Cancellation Policy

• Any cancellation within 30 days prior to the course start date will NOT be eligible for a refund
• If the course cancels due to low enrollment, funds paid are 100% refundable
