Friday, October 30, 2020 Update

We want to thank you for your continued support over this past month we have been re-open! All memberships and locker rentals purchased for the Spring 2020 semester ONLY were extended to November 6, 2020. If you would like to renew your membership, you can call the Information Desk- located at the Welcome Desk- to speak with a member of the Membership team. Here is the pricing structure for renewals:

Locker Renewals

If you would like to renew your locker for the remainder of the fall semester (with a new expiration date of 12/23/2020), the prorated price is $12.50. You do have the option to renew your locker for longer if you would like ($25.00/semester). If you do not plan on renewing your locker, please remove all items and wipe down your locker* by 8:00pm on November 6th. *If you do not feel comfortable coming in to clean out your locker, please let me know and I would be more than happy to assist you with the locker clean out process.  


Membership Renewals

Process: We will verify your information (name, address, phone number, email, and make sure you have a picture on your account for your ID card). Payment will be processed and you will need to sign a new waiver on your next visit to the facility. A note will be placed on your account for a new waiver to be signed. 

Additional Members: We will be contacting your sponsor via telephone to ensure they are currently enrolled/active and willing to sponsor you again. Please note- you as the additional member cannot outlast your sponsor’s membership. If you are being sponsored by a student, the student will need to be registered for classes for the semester before you can renew. 

ID Cards: Make sure you still have your Kaplan Center ID card. If you have lost it, please contact the Information Desk to pay for a replacement ID ($10.00). If it is damaged, we will provide you with a replacement at no charge. If your account does not have a picture on file, we will request you send one to our email address (recwell@uncg.edu) with the following criteria: 

  • Forward facing
  • Whole face/head- picture taken from shoulders up 
  • No head coverings*
  • Light background preferred 
  • Color photos only
  • In focus
  • Centered
  • Good lighting
  • Natural facial expression
  • Only cardholder in photo
    *Exceptions made for religious observance 

Memberships/services that are still not being offered at this time include: Family Recreation, guest passes, day passes, punch cards, towel service, and equipment checkout.

September 2, 2020 Update

We want to thank you for your continued patience and understanding over these last few months. In coordination with the governor’s announcement, the Kaplan Center will be opening on Saturday, September 12th at 10:00am. The building hours of operations are: 

  • Monday – Thursday 6:00am – 10:00pm 
  • Friday 6:00am – 8:00pm 
  • Saturday 10:00am – 6:00pm 
  • Sunday 10:00am – 10:00pm 

We will be operating at 30% capacity. The max capacity for the facility and each individual space will be posted on our website

For your safety and the safety of others, this email contains important information regarding our policy/procedure amendments and updates for reopening as well as the current status as it relates to your Recreation & Wellness membership.  All members are expected to follow and model compliance with university policies in order to sustain a healthy campus while the campus community recovers from the global pandemic.  

What you need to know:

  • Plexiglass shields have been installed at reception desks throughout the facility.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available for use.
  • All equipment and furniture has been arranged to allow for social distancing.
  • Face coverings are required to enter the Kaplan Center.  Everyone must wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth indoors – including all common areas, courts, track, meeting rooms, classrooms, equipment, restrooms, locker rooms, Outdoor Adventures, office spaces, stairwells, hallways, and elevators.  Regarding the Natatorium, face coverings must be worn while on the pool deck and may be removed prior to entering the water.  Face coverings are not required while swimming in the pool.
  • The facility will continue to be cleaned intensively and frequently.
  • Disposable wipes for cleaning the equipment will be available for patron use.
  • Fitness zones have been created in the facility to allow for social distancing and cleaning rotations.  
  • Only 2 people allowed on a court for basketball, face coverings required- no full games, no volleyball, no badminton.
  • Depending on guidelines, some spaces in the facility may not be available for certain activities. Programs, events, and activities that cannot be done with effective social distancing will be limited. 
  • The Natatorium will be open. Face coverings will be required on the pool deck but not when in the pool. 
  • The Climbing Wall will be open. Face coverings will be required at the Climbing Wall. 
  • Virtual program delivery will continue into the fall.
  • Guest passes will not be sold. 
  • New single memberships will be limited.  
    • New additional memberships will not be sold. 
  • Equipment checkout will not be available- including towels. 
  • We will not be accepting cash- Visa or Mastercard only. 
  • Water fountains will be closed- only bottle refill stations will be open. 
  • Sauna will remain closed. 
  • Certain locker bays will be open and available for use. 
  • The Administrative Suite will operate under appointment only- please fill out the following form if you would like to schedule an appointment. 

IMPORTANT: If you experience COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19 (or a health care provider tells you that you are presumed positive), or if someone in your immediate household tests positive, please stay home and do not participate in activities at the Kaplan Center.

Faculty/Staff Membership Information

Current Payroll Deduction: While the Kaplan Center has been closed due to COVID-19, your current payroll deduction has been paused. All payroll deductions, with the expectation of Family Weekend, will start again at the end of October for the month of November. (If you would like to cancel, please submit a cancellation form, which is found on our website.)

Current Paid in Full for Annual Period: While the Kaplan Center has been closed due to COVID-19, your annual membership had an expiration date of August 16, 2020. Your membership has been extended to February 21, 2020. You can renew your membership for the remainder of the spring 2021 semester at a prorated amount. 

Piney Lake: With the reopening of the Kaplan Center, Piney Lake is now open to all members. At this time, we are not allowing guests or family members. Please visit the Piney Lake webpage for more information. 


Alumni/Additional/ Glenwood/ Online Student Membership Information

Spring 2021 Membership: While the Kaplan Center has been closed due to COVID-19, your spring semester membership had an expiration date of May 10, 2020. Your membership has been extended to November 6, 2020. You can renew your membership for the remainder of the fall 2020 semester at a prorated amount. 

Annual Membership: While the Kaplan Center has been closed due to COVID-19, your annual membership had an expiration date of August 16th. Your membership has been extended to February 21, 2021. You can renew your membership for the remainder of the spring 2021 semester at a prorated amount.

Parking Pass: You will receive a new parking pass for the new academic year. Upon your first visit to the Kaplan Center, please visit the Information Desk and speak to a staff member to retrieve your parking pass. A parking pass is required in Lot 49 on weekdays between 8:00am and 5:00pm. 

Piney Lake: With the reopening of the Kaplan Center, Piney Lake is now open to all members. At this time, we are not allowing guests or family members. Please visit the Piney Lake webpage for more information. 


Locker Rental/Towel Pass/Family Recreation Membership Information 

Locker Rental: If you purchased a spring and/or summer semester locker, your locker expiration date has been extended. If you purchased a locker for the Spring 2020 semester, your locker has been extended to November 6, 2020. If you purchased an annual locker, your locker has been extended to February 21, 2021.  

Towel Pass: If you purchased a spring and/or summer semester towel pass, you have a credit placed on your account for a future towel service purchase. Towel service will not be available at this time. 

Family Recreation Membership: If you purchased a Family Recreation Membership, you have a credit placed on your account for a future Family Recreation membership purchase. If you have Family Recreation membership being payroll deducted, your deduction has been updated. We are not offering hours for Family Recreation at this time.
