Private/Semi-Private Swim Lesson FAQs
How long is each swim lesson?
Each swim lesson session is 45 minutes long.
How many lessons are included in a swim lesson package?
Private lessons are purchased in packages of 6.
Can I be paired with another participant looking for semi-private lessons?
Yes, however, it is not guaranteed the lesson will run. We recommend registering with another person in mind using our online scheduler.
How does scheduling lessons work?
We will pair you with an instructor based on the registration form and the instructor’s availability. Once paired, you will work with the instructor to determine days and times that work best for both of you.
How do I pay for lessons?
Swim lesson packages are purchased over the phone at 336-334-5924 or at the Welcome Desk. Payment will be accepted after being assigned an instructor and before the first lesson.
What ages are offered for swim lessons?
For the Fall semester, we will be running private swim lessons for adult participants. We hope to soon be offering private swim lessons for underage participants as well.
If you are willing to learn, we look forward to working with you to help further your aquatics experience.
What should I bring to my swim lessons?
Appropriate swim attire, goggles, a towel, and a positive attitude. Swimming takes time to learn, so enjoy the process!
Group Lesson FAQs
How many people are in each group lesson?
Ratios for group lessons are 6 participants per instructor, with a maximum of 12 participants per class.
How many lessons are included in group lessons?
In total, there are 9 sessions. The first class consists of skills test to ensure each participant is in the proper level class, followed by 8 sessions of instruction.
What if I don’t know which level is for me?
Complete a Swim Lesson Interest Form online, and our instructors will contact you to determine the appropriate level to join. There are also newsletter hyperlinks on our Group Lessons website, containing general information about each of the class levels.
What if I can’t make it to one of the group lesson dates?
We recommend attending every session in order to learn the skills in a logical progression; however, you may miss up to two lessons and still be eligible for the exit skills assessment, which is the American Red Cross’s standard for certifying swimmers and moving up levels. No refunds or makeup sessions will be granted for any missed lessons.
What if the level I sign up for does not have enough enrollment?
To run a group lesson, we need at least three participants. If a level does not have enough enrollment, you can take the level below or pay the difference for private lessons.
